FAQ - Renting a bike on VeloGuide

Can I request multiple bikes at the same time?

  • Yes. In fact, we recommend that Renters request multiple bikes at a time in order to get a quick response. Sometimes, Bike Listers don’t have time to respond right away or have forgotten to unlist a bike that is unavailable, so requesting multiple bikes will help you find one when you need it. Your credit card will only be charged once you CONFIRM AND PAY for a rental, so there is no penalty in making multiple requests. When you do settle on a bike, you will have the ability to CANCEL ALL OTHER REQUESTS after confirming a rental, which is a convenient way to clear your other reservation requests with one click.

What can I do if a Bike Lister doesn't respond to my request?

  • While we realize that things come up, we do require Bike Listers to be as prompt as possible to bike rental requests. Any Bike Listers who don’t respond after three consecutive reservation requests may have their bikes unlisted. This is ensure an inventory of available bikes for a Renter and build confidence that you will be able to rent the bikes you see within your search criteria. It is entirely possible a Bike Lister is on vacation, away from WIFI, or unable to respond due to their regular day job needs and has forgotten to unlist their bikes. Once again, we recommend that Renters request multiple bikes at a time in order to increase the chances of finding one that works.

There are no bikes available in my search, what can I do?

  • There are a few things that could be happening:

    • We might not have any bikes available for rent in your search area yet

    • Try zooming in and out and scanning around. Sometimes bikes can be on the edge or outside of the map area on your screen.

    • Try clearing your filters. Sometimes a search is applying old filters that are preventing bikes from showing up on the map.

    • If none of this works, email [email protected] or chat with us on the website. We are constantly working on building inventory around the world and we have contacts with shops and clubs in a variety of places! If you can't find a bike to rent in the city you’re visiting, let us work on finding a bike for you!

Can I have a bike rental delivered?

  • Most Bike Listers prefer to have you pick up the ride where it is listed, but some are willing to deliver their bikes for an additional fee. You will be able to select the delivery option should a Bike Lister have chosen a price and distance they are willing to deliver to. Nonetheless, through the messaging feature within VeloGuide, please feel free to ask the Bike Lister if they’re willing to change the pickup location or add a delivery charge to the bike rental. Communication creates a vibrant community within VeloGuide and builds trust between Renters and Bike Listers.

Can I ask for a discount or negotiate the rental price?

  • If you are renting for multiple dates or renting multiple bikes from a single Bike Lister, you might want to ask if they are willing to give a discount. If you like the bike, but want to ask for a different price, it is up to you and the Bike Lister to work together to find an agreeable rental cost. The Bike Lister has the ability to change the price of each individual reservation and can do so as soon as a price has been agreed upon.

Do I need to bring a lock and helmet?

  • If a Bike Lister has a lock or helmet available, they will show up as 'extras' on the bike page. If you are not completely sure, you can message the Bike Lister through the bike page to ask if they're provided and what sizes are available so you don't show up unprepared. Some Bike Listers will only provide the bike and you'll have to bring your own extras.

  • Also, some Bike Shops may charge to rent a helmet, lock, or other accessories, and these prices can be seen prior to checkout as add-ons.

Can I bring my own saddle, pedals, etc.?

  • You are more than welcome to bring your own pedals and saddle along with you but please confirm that the Bike Lister is okay with you swapping parts. Many Bike Shops or Bike Listers will make the changes for you prior to the start of the rental. Remember, as per our VeloGuide Rental Agreement, you are responsible for dropping off the bike in the same shape you picked it up. Make sure you have all the necessary tools to make the changes seamless and be aware that you are responsible for any damages.

What if I want a bike for the weekend but I have nowhere to keep the bike safe overnight?

  • Your best option is probably renting the bike for the day. Locking a bike outside overnight with OR without protection is a violation of the VeloGuide Rental Agreement. Keep in mind, our Rental Agreement states that you are liable for any theft of, loss of, or damage to a bike that takes place during the rental period.

Do I have insurance with VeloGuide when I rent a bike?

  • All reservations are at the Renter's risk and you will be responsible for any theft or damage to the bike during the rental period. However, Renters have the option of purchasing damage protection for a small daily fee at the time of confirmation. This way, you can enjoy peace of mind while you ride should an unfortunate accident occur!
