I am an American professional road racing cyclist riding for UCI WorldTeam Team Katusha–Alpecin. My training or non-race time is spent between Nice, France and Vermont. I have been cycling since my childhood, since growing up in the outdoor mecca of Bend, Oregon. I love cycling not just as a sport but as a mode of transportation; I find combining fitness with sensory experiences of sights, smells and feelings that are not accessible by other means incredibly exhilirating. I love spending time on the Cote d'Azur amidst the strong cycling community here, and also enjoy exploring the dirt roads and green mountains of Vermont on my gravel bike. When I'm not on the bike -- road, gravel, or fat -- I enjoy cooking, camping, and tending the homestead with my fiancée.
Ian Boswell is legend. The consummate pro. He's so friendly and present and enjoys riding his bike.
Having worked with professional athletes for most of my life I can say that Ian is one of those rare gems who rides at a level that's hard to even imagine and has absolutely no ego. He will ride with recreational guys like myself up a big hill and it's not a problem for him, sure he may turn around after and go for the KOM, but wouldn't you? Great conversation and interesting to hear about all the behind the scenes happenings on the world tour. Highly recommend jumping on his wheel if you get a chance!
Booked some rides with Joel / BiciBucerias in Vallarta last week and by chance Ian was in town to check out the local riding scene for himself as well. I was super apprehensive about riding in Vallarta / Mexico and I could have been more wrong. The roads were great, the traffic / locals super friendly and being in the company of a World Tour Pro and all-around awesome guy was a huge bonus! Ian is a super nice guy, more than happy to share insights into the life of a pro cyclist and an awesome VleoGuide in training!
If you get a chance to ride with Ian (or any of the VeloGuides for that matter) I can’t recommend it enough. Hoping our paths cross again very soon, in the meantime looking forward to cheering him on next season!
My best friend and I had the honour and pleasure of riding with Ian for several days. As a former racer and bike shop owner, I have met many pro cyclists in my day. Frankly, Ian stands above the rest. This young man is the real deal! Humble, engaging, interested and crazy strong. He never made us feel intimidated even if I knew he could flex one butt cheek and disappear out of sight. I can say with complete confidence, we will ride together again. And that little 5k roll out at 50k/hr with you was the highliite of my trip. Thank you Ian.
Ian joined us as a guest VeloGuide for a ride out of Puerto Vallarta to El Tuito. Awesome guy. Super down to earth and humble. He road alongside the guest and chatted. Shraromg stories of his life as a world tour pro cyclist. What a m incredible bonus!
My favorite ride is generally a sunny one, and most always social. I most enjoy riding with friends, incorporating a coffee stop, and accessing remote and beautiful areas between sea and mountains. I love rides during which I can't help but stop to snap a photo, but any ride that also allows me to feel the wind in my hair as well as the burn in my legs is a great one!
The most memorable experience I've had on the bike was a 4-day tour I did in Europe with my younger brother, Austin. All we had was a set of kit, a swimsuit, and a credit card to fuel the fun.
