I'm a Euro country boy, raised in the Blue Ridge Mountains. I've been called an "educated redneck." I love the outdoors. I'm in my eighth season as a World Tour Professional and ride for Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka. My wife and I split our time between Charlottesville, Virginia, and Lucca, Italy during the racing season. Living the dream!
I road with Ben along the historic Canal du Midi south of Toulouse, France. Ben is a true gentleman and a pleasure to ride alongside. HIs depth of knowledge reaches far beyond cycling and you will most certainly enjoy the conversation as much as the ride.
You can't go wrong riding around Charlottesville, but you can always go better. For a decade I've been riding pro volume and still discover new roads close to home. Central Virginia is the reason I feel in love with cycling. It's an endless maze of idyllic country roads, secret cut throughs, gravel (if you're into that), mountain bike trails, and loads of climbs criss-crossing the Blue Ridge Parkway. There's a view around every turn and one for every season. If you're "going deep" then you'll need to know the water holes and cafes to keep from going dry or hungry. It competes with Tuscany for all round cycle-ability. After riding, the historic downtown area offers a wide variety of food, entertainment, and history to fill your time and stomach. The local art and music scene is healthy and nearby UVA keeps the town lively into the night. Copious vineyards and microbreweries scatter the outskirts of town. Orchards, rivers, lakes, coffee shops, theatres, farmers markets, and parks are plentiful if the mountain roads have spared you any energy for them.
