Meet Olivier

Heerenveen, Kingdom of the Netherlands

I am a passionate cyclist who is also a member of the Canadian speed skating team.  My most memorable acheivement was winning gold on February 26 in the 5000 meter relay along with my teamates Charles Hamelin, Francois Hamelin, Francios-Louis Tremblay and Guillaume Bastille. I train mostly in Europe but I am back in Canada on a regular basis. I am always happy to get out with new people and show them the amazing local cycling routes around Calgary.

Olivier is a friendly guy who is very fast when he wants to be. He's a speed skater and olympic medal winner. While I am nowhere near as fast as Olivier, he had no problem slowing down to my pace, only giving the occasional burst of speed when he wanted to get ahead of me and take a photo with his trusty go-pro on a selfie stick. Some of the pictures were very cool.

Every summer I am in Calgary and had the opportunity to ride with Olivier a few times. I was definitely looking for a good push so asked to join him during one of his interval days. It was pretty cool and intense! As he did his intervals and some 400+ watts I just happily sat on the wheel and had a chance to pull through for the last minute or so. Awesome stories and a great all around guy. Took me for a beer to Cassis Bistro after. Nice touch!

My Favorite Ride

My favourite ride in Calgary is the Road to Nepal. It is south of the city, and takes you through beautiful rolling farm land. Depending on where you start from, or how far you explore, the route is between about 55 and 80 kms.

My most memorable rides in Europe are in the Nederland countryside.
