Joel is the founder of VeloGuide and a dedicated cycling advocate. He fell in love with riding in Mexico and exploring the world class riding that was at his door step for so many years. Joel is focused on bringing each of his customers a unique and fun cycling experience. Whether you are a beginner/recreational cyclist, a semi-pro, or someone in between, Joel can set up a ride that will be perfectly suited for you.
For those looking for a challenge, ask me about conquering three peaks, La Bufa or La Vuelta a Jalisco. World class climbs that will leave you in awe.
Rode 3 days with Joel and his BiciBucerias crew last week in Vallarta. Was in town for a family wedding and a little unsure of bringing a bike down and riding around Vallarta / Mexico. My apprehension couldn’t have been more misplaced! One of the best weeks I’ve had on the bike in recent memory. Beautiful roads, super friendly traffic and post-ride beer and tacos, what’s not to like?? From windy coastal roads, to flowy climbs up into the mountains to dirt/gravel adventures into the countryside, any keen riders should put this corner of the world on their to-do list.
Joel and his team will make sure you are well sorted and have a blast riding around their little slice of paradise. I can’t wait to go back!
Joel went out of his way to make it a great cycling vacation for our group. He is passionate about the sport and making sure folks are having fun. Keep up the great work Joel and thanks for making it a great time!
Fantastic ride with VeloGuide Joel into the mountains. This is my fifth time visiting and I can’t say enough about how great the riding is. Joel does a great job of ensuring everybody is taken care of for an enjoyable day of cycling.
I have the pleasure to meet and ride with Joel and he is very attentive and focused on safety. I had some apprehension about riding in Mexico but not anymore.
The quintessential guide!
I met Joel in the Vélo Café in Calgary. I was visiting for a wedding a dropped in on the off chance I could find a bike and some one to ride with, as luck would have it there was a ride and a bike available right then. Thanks for taking the time to show me around and getting me back in time for the wedding.
My son and I were in Mexico for a short vacation and looking for something to do. He’s not very comfortable on a road bike, so Joel took us out on mountain bikes for a modified hill/food tour. Super safe, very interesting and a great way to spend an afternoon. And a nice cold cervesa to top it all off!
Joel made every ride everyday fun to go out without worrying about logistics and nice to meet other cyclists, especially from Canada for some reason :). Also, I enjoyed great local eats/drinks during and at end of rides. Look forward to riding with Joel and VeloGuide community on my next trips.
I was recently in Bucerias and was able to get out for a one-on-one ride with Joel. It was a great ride with great conversation and we met up with some local riders. We finished it off with a nice espresso. I would highly recommend VeloGuide to any cyclist and I will be back for sure. Dave K.
Riding to El Tuito from Boca was a fantastic experience with Joel as our guide! We were safe on the mountain road. The pace was perfect. He was always taking care of our group, getting us water and delicious pastries and the most amazing ceviche, fish tacos and cerveza on the beach at the end of the ride! I'll always remember what a fun ride it was! Joel's the best!
I brought my Gravel Bike to Mexico as I was unsure what the roads would be like. When Joel saw my bike he modified a regular route to add about 10km of Gravel/Dirt road. It was a great ride and one that I would not have discovered on my own. Thanks Joel!
Great ride, very personalized to my pace and interests. Loved the espresso to start and the craft beer stop!
Best way to see the PV area by bike. Ride with Bici Bikes.
Just finished a great week in Vallarta and spent three of those days riding with Joel. He's a great guide and took care of us even with different experience levels.
My third year in a row riding with Joel and the Bici Bucerias team and always an amazing time ! Joel adapts to everyone's needs and provides the level of challenge you are looking for ! Already looking forward to next year's rides !
Rode the El Tuito and San Sebastian mountain rides with Joel over the x-mas break. Beautiful rides for those who love steady climbs and stunning scenery. Joel is a very professional guide, who knows these rides inside and out. He is a great judge of his clients capabilities, helping them get the most out of their rides in a safe manner. He is also fluent in Spanish and has a deep knowledge of this part of Mexico. Plan to ride again with him next time I am back!
I enjoyed every moment on my ride with Joel. He quickly learns what his clients want and make sure the ride is a world class experience.
Joel showed me some great roads and climbs I'd have never found on my own, with fun stops and a great vibe. Thank you!
Joel is an excellent VeloGuide. He was very prepared prior to the ride, and very knowledgeable during the ride. He knew the route inside and out, and we had a safe and enjoyable ride in the Mexican countryside! He knows all the little out of the way stops
Great experience ! I will return for sure
Una experiencia que superó mis espectativas. Muchas gracias
I have hired guides and rented bikes in many parts of the world. BiciBucerias was my BEST experience by far. The excellent customer service I received from both Joel and Jillian started well before my trip to Bucerias. I was naturally skeptical of organi
Riding with Joel, and others from the team in Bucerias is always a pleasure. We are well cared for, the riding is as challenging as we would like it to be and we will return to ride in Mexico!
It was great to go on a few bike rides while on vacation with guides that were such experienced and passionate riders. I would do this again in a heartbeat.
I have a few favourite rides in Mexico and it is really tough to choose. I love the old road along the coast from La Cruz to Punta Mita. So quiet and when you pop out of the jungle along the beautiful Deistiladeras beach, it really is special. Both a client and personal favourite would be riding to el Tuito. Simple pleasures like a bakery stop and tranistioning from ocean and jungle to mountain pines to be followed by a smooth descent to the beach where we feast on ceviche, barbeque of fish, and buckets of beer are simply priceless!
I really enjoy riding with all levels of cyclists. I believe that we need to make cycling more inclusive vs an exclusive type of sport that only cares about the brand of bike and clothing one wears. Some of my most memorable rides have been with guests who really want to take time and smell the roses. Stopping for photos and discovering delicious local food along our routes are what I live for! That being said, I really do enjoy the challenge of riding with our pro guests and some of the best training rides I have done have been with our Canadian Olympic Speed Skating Team.
